Opheos
God of Fortune & Deception
Before kings ruled and treasures filled vaults, Opheos was born from the first gamble ever taken by the gods. While the others played a game of chance to determine Velmora's fate seriously, Opheos cheated, manipulated the dice, and walked away with control over luck and fate itself. He is the Smiling Trickster who never appears the same way twice.
Unlike the other gods who molded the world through creation or destruction, Opheos never built anything permanent. Instead he meddled in the fate of mortals, using luck as both a boon and a curse. He tests mortals by pushing them into situations where risks must be taken, believing that only those who gamble deserve greatness. No one knows his true form — he may appear as a charming noble at a royal banquet, a roguish street performer flipping coins, or a shadow in the corner of a gambling hall. When Malrik began spreading Abyssal Shards, Opheos watched with great interest, seeing the chaos as a gamble worth observing. He occasionally guided mortals to the shards — sometimes leading them to great power, sometimes to ruin. He believes the shards are tools of chance whose effects depend on the choices of those who find them. Some say his trickery has actually slowed Malrik's influence by giving false leads to cultists and turning powerful mortals against each other. His followers offer prayers through risks, wagers, and acts of deception. Temples are disguised as gambling halls, secret meeting places, or auction houses. The Golden Pits are underground gambling dens, the House of Fools gathers tricksters and bards, and the Crossroads Shrines are filled with coins left by travelers flipping for good luck. As the Eclipse Prophecy approaches, Opheos' role remains a mystery. Some believe he already knows the outcome but keeps it hidden, waiting to see which mortals prove worthy. One roll of the dice can change everything — but only the bold get to play.
