Zaryn
The Arcane-Blooded
The Zaryn are the direct descendants of the Aetherion survivors who fled the collapse of their empire during the Grand Nexus's destruction. Created and guided by Eldara, the Goddess of Magic and Knowledge, they are born with arcane energy flowing through their veins — their glowing veins shimmer with magical light, a testament to their heritage as living conduits of magic. They rule Zarynthar, a vast magical dominion that floats above Velmora's lands on enchanted platforms and spires of crystal and marble. Floating citadels drift in the skies, rivers of mana pulse through the streets, and ancient obelisks hum with power. The Zaryn have spent centuries rebuilding what was lost, but they carry the burden of their ancestors' mistakes. Their society constantly debates how far they can push the boundaries of magic before repeating the catastrophe that destroyed the Aetherion Empire.
Subraces
Highborn
The Highborn Zaryn are descendants of the old noble families from the height of the Aetherion Empire. They trace their lineage back to the original Aetherion elite who escaped the destruction and rebuilt their legacy in the floating city of Zarynthar. Raised with a deep sense of responsibility and entitlement, they control much of Zarynthar's leadership, magical academies, and arcane research institutes. Highborn children are groomed from birth to be political leaders, scholars, or influential mages, and their rivalries between noble families can escalate into political intrigue and magical duels.
Veilmarked
The Veilmarked Zaryn are considered outcasts and exiles, their origins shrouded in mystery. During the fall of the Aetherion Empire, some Zaryn were cut off from the main magical leylines, forcing them to survive in isolated regions and unstable arcane environments. The chaotic magic they were exposed to left unusual marks on their bodies and spirits. Known for their defiance and rebellious nature, the Veilmarked value freedom and creativity over strict tradition, often forming tight-knit communities and informal guilds. Some believe their connection to unstable magic grants them deeper insight into the Arcane Weave itself.
